Don’t things such as the coronavirus just make you want to spit into the face of Death?

Sadly, I currently have my own reasons for death-aimed expectorations. My wife of 30 years died on March 9.

As with anyone who deals with this sad situation, I am finding my own ways of coping…and one of them is

THE LOVE GOES ON BLOGATHON!

What We’re Looking For

Your blogathon entry should be about a movie in which a couple’s love for each other is so strong that it survives the death of one of those partners — perhaps even reaching out from (or into) the afterlife! Your entry can be from any category — comedy, drama, fantasy, etc. If you need inspiration, Google a list such as “Movies about love after death,” and you might be surprised at some of the titles that pop up. Or if you have a choice of your own, as long as it fits our blogathon’s motif, it shall be honored.

(Since there are so many choices in this “genre,” no duplicate entries will be allowed. Check the regularly updated list below to ensure that your choice has not already been taken.)

Instructions

  1. In the “Comments” section at the bottom of this blog, please leave your name, the URL of your blog, and the movie you are choosing to blog about. Below are banners you can use to promote your blog entry. Please choose a banner, display it on your blog, and link it back to this blog.
  2. The blogathon will take place from Fri., May 1 through Sun., May 3, 2020. When the opening date of the blogathon arrives, leave a comment here with a link to your post, and I will display it in the list of entries (which I will continually update to the beginning of the ‘thon, so keep checking back!).
  3. I will not be assigning particular dates to any blog posts. As long as you get your entry in by the end of the day on May 3, I will be satisfied. (That said, the sooner the better!)

So, would you like to know how technologically inept I am? One weekend in Feb. 2019, my computer had an Internet connection, but I couldn’t get anything to come up on my computer screen. As is the way of all non-savvy computer nerds, I quickly deduced that the best way to get everything going again on my screen was to purge everything I could think of. By mistake, that included the user ID and password of my WordPress account. When I tried to get back into my WordPress account, WordPress asked me for my user ID and password. I had forgotten my password long ago (I only use a few thousand of them), and the user ID was an email account that I had deleted long ago after it got hacked. WordPress informed me that, unless I could send them an email message from my user ID’s account, they would not be able to send me a new password, and therefore, I would be locked out of my own account. And so it went. My access to four-and-a-half years of blogging and several hundred blog subscribers were suddenly locked behind bars. (I imagined hearing a loud “cha-ching!” from the TV series “Law & Order.”) So I’ve decided to try and make lemonade out of my WordPress lemons. I am resuming my blogging career on this “sequel” blog. Of course, I still have a “history” of previous blogging that I’d like to reference on occasion. So be forewarned that now, I will often hyperlink to my previous blog. For example, if I’m writing about Charlie Chaplin, and I want to reference a Chaplin movie review from my old blog, I will link to it like this. So please note that, obviously, if you go to that hyperlink, you will have to press the “Back” button on your computer keyboard in order to return to this “sequel” blog. If, by chance, you know anyone who followed my previous blog but is not aware of my current situation, please let them know so that I can restore some of my old readership. And of course, please feel free to return to and reference my previous blog, whose URL is listed on the masthead of this blog. Thank you for bearing with me through a quite troublesome situation.

  6. The niche of films I write about….never end well. As that’s counterproductive to the spirit of this lovely tribute, I’ll just drop by to read along with all the entries

      1. Not in the context of going beyond death. Usually that becomes a monkeys paw scenario. Your good hearted monsters usually occur in invasion flicks or the pseudo science type big creature films.

  7. Hello Steve. So sorry to hear about your wife. I’ll keep you and your family in my thoughts. For the blogathon, would ‘The Crow’ or a movie where a human falls in love with an angel be eligible?

      1. Thanks, Steve. I was originally going to review it around Halloween-time. But after reading the “what we’re looking for” section, I knew ‘The Crow’ would be a perfect choice.

  9. I’d like to join this blogathon, but I really have no clue. Most of the ideas that came to me are movies I’ve avoided. “What Dreams May Come” was the first, but the concept sounds too depressing. I thought of “All of Me”, but since the love develops after the death it may not be acceptable. Your suggestion to google the concept only turned up a series of movies titled “love After Death” but I don’t know where I could find any of them. I guess I could probably go with “Love Story” even though I’m not much of a romance movie lover. If you’ll accept “All of Me” I’ll go with that, otherwise I guess I’ll go with “Love Story”.

    I’m so sorry to hear about your wife’s death. I’m so glad that you are continuing on during this difficult time by doing something you love, hosting a blogathon about movies. This is a great topic! I would like to participate, if I may. Is “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” an appropriate topic? Rex Harrison’s character is no longer living when the film begins, yet he falls in love with a live woman. If not, I’ll think of a new topic.
